“Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns; she has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table. She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city . . . Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding”
OC Catholic Liturgy 20th Sunday
In Book XVII, Chapter 20 of The City of God, St. Augustine discusses the prophecy of Christ's coming as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, particularly those concerning the house of David. He interprets the prophecies as pointing to the establishment of the Church, which he considers the true "house" built by Wisdom (Christ). Augustine elaborates on the genealogies and prophecies, explaining how they find their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who is both the Son of David and the eternal Wisdom of God.
